Morcellement tax in the 1981 convention
The UK–Mauritius convention was signed on 11 February 1981. GOV.UK records that it entered into force on 19 October 1981 and took effect in Mauritius from 1 July 1982 for income tax and for capital gains tax. Later protocols, including the protocol of 28 February 2018, amended that text. The Multilateral Instrument also modifies it. The page to read is the Mauritius treaty collection, not a summary from another country.

Article 2 names two Mauritius taxes: income tax, and the capital gains tax (morcellement). Morcellement is the tax on gains from dividing land into plots. It is not UK capital gains tax, and it is not a fee on our invoice. The Mauritius Revenue Authority assesses Mauritian tax. A Companies House certificate does not file either tax.
A resident’s national identity card accompanies the passport. Address proof should show a Mauritian address: a recent Central Electricity Board bill, a water bill, or a statement from a bank in Mauritius. English is the language of the laws. French is widely used in business. This page is written in English, which is an official language.
