An address shown on the public register instead of your residential address as a director — a privacy layer separate from the company’s registered office.

The directors register is public. If you file your home or flat address, it becomes linked to your name for anyone searching the company. For non-residents that means publishing an address in your country of residence on a British public platform — often without need.
The service address appears as the contact address related to your role as director, while your residential address is withheld from public display under the applicable rules.
At formation it is best to set the service address from day one so the residential address is not published then changed later. For existing companies we file a register update after subscription. A privacy package combines formation + both addresses in one path if you are starting from scratch.
Competent authorities may still request a residential address in verification procedures. The service limits public publication on Companies House; it is not concealment from the authorities.
Each director chooses their service address. Directors can share the same service address if that is appropriate and covered by the subscription.
Persons with Significant Control (PSC) rules are separate. We explain what is displayed when preparing your file; do not assume the service address covers every disclosure.
No. The company’s registered office is mandatory and separate. Many non-residents need both.
